What was the first impression you got when you heard Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines? Did you first notice the cool, throwback sound it had? Did you notice that it felt like the first real summer jam of 2013? Or did you think that it was hugely misogynistic? Well, Simon Le Bon, the lead singer of huge 80’s band Duran Duran thinks that Thicke may have already forced himself into a corner with the racy lyrics only made worse by the video.

Simon Le Bon says that Robin Thicke disempowered women with that song. He goes on to state he does not think that Thicke is a misogynist, but that the song will give him that reputation, and that reputation will follow him for the rest of his career. He also says he fears that Blurred Lines sends a very strong message about woman wanting things when they say they don’t, and that can be a dangerous thing to talk so lightly about. The thing is, we all need to remember that Duran Duran got pretty famous for a song called Girls On Film, and their video was just as risky as Blurred Lines, so maybe this is Simon Le Bon speaking from experience. Or he could just want to stay relevant? Who’s to say?

We are curious what Robin Thicke thinks about this, though. GigWise has more on the story.
